Top 5 Cricket Matches Of India Effected By Rain

ICC Tournaments are surely a treat to watch for all cricket fans as in them all cricket playing nations fight for a single trophy. But sometimes due to bad weather conditions and especially rain knockout games of big ICC tournaments get spoiled.

Today we will see 5 instances when rain spoiled India's knockout games in ICC tournaments

Top 5 Cricket Matches Of India Effected By Rain

Let's get started

 1. India Vs New Zealand - Southampton(2021) - World Test Championship Final

Well ICC should look into the fact that inaugural edition of WTC is in danger of not getting a single champion because of the excess of rain and bad light in match. First Day of play was called of due to rain, second day's last session was not fully played due to bad light and same with 3rd day. 4th day of play also washed out due to rain.

Now it will be a miracle if WTC will get a inaugural champion because looking at the current situation of match the trophy will be shared between Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson.

2. India Vs Sri Lanka - Colombo(2002)- ICC Champions Trophy Final

Rain and India seems to have a bitter relation in ICC knockouts. One example of this relationship is 2002 CT final. Batting First Srilanka gave India a chasable target of 223 runs in final and India was also in good position in chase at 38/1 when rain started and it never ended on that day and it even washed out the reserve day resulting India to share Champions Trophy 2002 with Sri Lanka which seemed to be India's. when the match was halted due to rain.

3. India Vs New Zealand - Manchester(2019)- ICC World Cup Semi final

Again England seemed a horrible place to play ICC knockouts. In the first semifinal of WC 2019 India opted to bowl first and was completely outplaying New Zealand until in 46th over game was halted due to rain.

Thanks to reserve day match resumed but the break in match broke away India's Momentum and conditions become overcast and then comes Matt Henry and Trent Boult with a nightmare for India as they blew away with India's top order and we witnessed in last struggle of Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni fall in vain as India lost the match and were knocked out of the tournament.

4. India Vs Australia - Wanderers(2003)- ICC World Cup Final

In 2003 WC final first Ricky Ponting and Daniel Martyn came like a storm and then in 17th over of India's innings rain came and spoiled India's game. All the fans remember Virender Sehwag was in a great touch and even after departure of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar all fans were in a hope of chasing the target but due to rain outfield became extremely wet and ball hardly travels to boundary resulting in loss of momentum for India and eventually India lost to Australia their dream of winning Cricket World Cup after 20 years.

5. India Vs England - Birmingham (2013)- ICC Champions Trophy Final

Now coming to our last memory today it was a good memory as India defeated England in a 20-20 overs game which was to be originally a 50-50 overs game but due to rain it was shortened to a T-20 match. MS Dhoni clinched his 3rd ICC trophy and eventually became the only captain to have all 3 ICC trophies in his kitty.

Bit it can not deny the fact that it is another example of rain spoiling a ICC knockout match in ENGLAND. Hopefully ICC will look into the fact and in future rain will act as villian in less knockout games.
